#1 Ride a little bus down into a big canyon –
5 miles, 40 minutes, 1,669 feet of elevation drop, a couple of bumps – Lumsden Road is the gateway to the Tuolumne. Unnerving, but worth it.
- Most common question: “We don’t have to do that again, do we?”
#2 Run Clavey –
The Tuolumne’s signature rapid always delivers something; often something memorable.
- Most common question: “Can we do that again?”
#3 Swim Clavey –
Legendary rapids have named rocks; legendary side-streams have named swimming holes. Choose from The Camp Hole, The Champagne Pool, The Olympic Pool, or the mythical Upper-Upper Pool.
#4 Jump off a rock –
If the rapids aren’t thrilling enough.
#5 Sleep on top of a turn-of-the-century powerhouse –
Built in 1905, abandoned in 1914, you can sleep on top (if you’re not afraid of the ghosts of miner’s past.)
#6 Catch a Rainbow –
Bring your rod, leave the fish.
#7 Explore a Gold Rush mine shaft –
300 feet of claustro-, nycto-, and tapho- phobia (and, if you make it to the very end: Gollum!)
#8 Surf Steamboat –
We could do this all day – (and sometimes it feels like we’re going to.)
#9 Swim Mohican –
Float by and swim it once on one-day trips or camp there and lap swim it as many times as you want on three-day trips.
#10 Watch a raft levitate –
Boom!
And…
Run over 30 other rapids, paddle all day, sleep on a sandy beach*, watch the stars*, hike up the North Fork Tuolumne*, and see a one-of-a-kind graffiti-covered bridge.
*Two and three-day trips only.
And…
Visit Yosemite, listen to riverside bluegrass music with Laurie Lewis, have a drink at the Iron Door Saloon, have a treat at Tangled Hearts Bakery, take a guided hike with Echo Adventure Coop, get a local brew from Around the Horn, and check out the local history at the Gateway Museum.
